The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are the newest Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property at the Disneyland Resort and we had the opportunity to stay in a 2-Bedroom Villa with Preferred View. If you’re curious about becoming a DVC member or just window shopping a vacation or staycation at the Happiest Place on Earth, we’ve got your full guide to know what this lodging includes!

The photos and information in this article are from a stay on September 30, 2023.

Room Tour

Before we take closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 300 at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

What’s Included

The 2-Bedroom Villas feature a theme of either Princess and the Frog or, what you’ll see on this page, Fantasia. The accommodation features a common area with a full kitchen, dinning area, and bathroom plus a primary bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a secondary bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 9 guests and 1 infant — cribs and high chairs are available upon request.

Although this was a dedicated 2-Bedroom Villa, some of the 2-Bedroom Villas are “lock-off villas” which are comprised of a 1-Bedroom Villa connected to a Deluxe Studio via a door that’s lockable on both sides. The noticeable difference is that in the lock-off 2-Bedroom Villa, the second bedroom is a Deluxe Studio which means it has a separate kitchenette with its own sink, mini refrigerator, and microwave plus its own dedicated entrance separate from the main entrance into the main suite. This feature allows Disney the ability to offer 2-Bedroom Villas when needed but offers the added flexibility of being able to turn it into a 1-Bedroom Villa + a separate Deluxe Studio which can be issued as separate accommodations.

Bedroom 1

The primary bedroom features a king bed, a 55″ flat screen-TV, a wardrobe closet with spare pillows and blanket, and a private balcony. The bathroom includes soaking tub with hand-cut tile mosaic, walk-in shower with bench, double vanity with dual sinks, a separate toilet room, and, of course, a hair dryer.

The theme of the bedroom carries through the Fantasia theme with warm earthy tones. The dancing dandelion fairies float through the air on the backboard above the bed while fairies embroidered into the backsplash fly around the television. The hand-cut tile mosaic of the goldfish from Fantasia is a focal point of the bathroom which also has lighted pixie dust sprinkled across the mirrors.

Bedroom 2

The second bedroom features 2 queen beds, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with a wall safe, spare pillows and blanket. The bathroom includes a standing shower, a vanity with dual sinks, a separate toilet room, and hair dryer.

The theme carries through the same beautiful dandelion and fairy motif, this time in cooler blue hues. The chandelier in this room forms another dandelion. A fun detail is bright yellow semi-transparent strip on the window. At night, it takes any light that shines through from outside and turns it into a beautiful rainbow halo. Fairies and pixie dust dot the mirrors in the bathroom. Framed artwork features concept imagery for Fantasia and the closet has a back accent wall featuring more fairies and dandelions.

Common Area

Also serving as the entrance into the suite, amenities include a sitting area (with a queen-size foldout bed) with a 65″ flat screen-TV, and an additional twin foldout bed. This area is connected with the kitchen and dining area, plus an in-room washer & dryer, and a large closet that includes spare pillows and blanket, a laundry basket, iron and ironing board. There is also a bathroom with toilet and standing shower and bench.

Subtle Fantasia themes and imagery are on display here. Over the dining area is the iconic Conductor and his orchestra created as layered shadow box image of sorts. Meanwhile the wallpaper features the visual representation of musical sound which is also carried through onto the curtains in the living area. The curtains also feature a star and moon motif reminiscent of Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice hat. The rug features the quote “Realms of Color, Sounds, and Motion” which is part of a quote by Walt Disney discrobing animation as a voyage of discovery. A canvas featuring the iconic imagery of Sorcerer Mickey is also included here.

Full Kitchen

Aside from a full-size French door refrigerator with ice maker, you’ll find a large sink, stove, oven, toaster, and dishwasher. Of course, there’s a microwave and Keurig coffee maker plus additional accoutrement that includes proper dishes, glasses, and eating utensils and a host of other things you’ll need to cook up a storm including cooking utensils, pots, pans, a casserole dish, baking sheet, mixing bowls, can and bottle opener, corkscrew, and ice bucket. Although they are not in the room, you can also request a blender, electric mixer, tea kettle, mop, broom, and dustpan.

We took advantage of the amenities and made ourselves a pineapple upside down cake, extra walnuts! But if cooking on vacation is not your speed then you can order from the room service menu which includes a *gulp* $75 steak and shrimp dinner.

The theme of The Princess and the Frog carries through here with a firefly lit-bayou mural headboard and carpet that features a colorful lily pad motif. Dandelion puffs from the painting are carried through in the nightstand lamps. The beautiful mosaic over the soaking tub evokes an impressionistic painting of a pond with flowers and lily pads. Fireflies light up on the mirrors in the bathroom just like they did in the film for Tiana and Naveen.

ROOM TOUR: Inside a Duo Studio with Jungle Book theme at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

$

0

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are the newest lodging destination at the Happiest Place on Earth offering a bunch of accommodation types for all kinds of vacations, one of the most unique of which is the Duo Studio which we’re looking at here. We had a chance to tour the newest Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property and are happy to invite you along for a look inside.

The photos and information in this article are from a visit on September 30, 2023.

Room Tour

Before we take closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 329 at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

What’s Included

The Duo Studios feature a theme of The Jungle Book. The accommodation is specifically designed for two people and is a first-of-its-kind for Disney Vacation Club. It features a compact layout with fold out bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 2 guests — cribs and high chairs may be available upon request.

As some of the cheapest offerings in the portfolio for this property, the Duo Studios are going to appeal most to the Disneylanding couple without kids who are gonna rope-drop in the morning and close out the night once the gates close. There’s hardly any room to really entertain any guests unless possibly you are in one of the Duo Studios with a balcony. Also, while no one wants to work while on vacation, you’d be hard pressed to be very productive in here as there’s no desk or even a table in this room.

villas at the disneyland hotel bumpy start 20230930_172448

Bed and Common Area

The Duo Studio maximizes an efficient use of layout to pack function into the small space. The room features a queen-size pull-down bed that can be folded away to reveal a sofa, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with an iron, spare pillows, and blanket. The large dresser serves as both storage for the room and also houses a wall safe plus amenities for a quais-kitchenette. The bathroom includes a walk-in shower and, of course, a hair dryer. Disney rooms tend to have the toilet behind a separate door but these accommodations do not offer this feature.

The theme of the Jungle Book is evident throughout the space including an area rug with jungle motif and the lyric “The Bare Necessities of Life Will Come To You” heard sung in the film. The jungle motif carries through into design elements in the closet and on the curtains as well as in the bathroom where you can see light-up jungle vines on the mirror. Artwork on the walls features concept art and sketches from the film. There is a relief on the wall behind the television evoking some of the Indian architecture also seen in the film.

ROOM TOUR: Inside a Lock Off 2-Bedroom Villa with Princess and the Frog theme at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are the newest lodging destination at the Happiest Place on Earth offering a bunch of accommodation types for all kinds of vacations including the Lock Off 2-Bedroom Villa with preferred view that we’re looking at here. We had a chance to tour the newest Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property and are happy to invite you along for a look inside.

The photos and information in this article are from a stay on September 30, 2023.

Room Tour

Before we take closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 335 and Room 337 which can be combined as a Lock Off 2-Bedroom Villa  at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

What’s Included

The 2-Bedroom Villas feature a theme of either Fantasia or, what you’ll see on this page, Princess and the Frog. The accommodation features a common area with a full kitchen, dinning area, and bathroom plus a primary bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a secondary bedroom with a small kitchenette and en-suite bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 9 guests and 1 infant — cribs and high chairs are available upon request.

villas at the disneyland hotel bumpy start 20230930_172448The Lock Off 2-Bedroom Villas are a clever arrangement that are actually comprised of a 1-Bedroom Villa connected to a Deluxe Studio via a door that’s lockable on both sides as seen below. The noticeable difference is that in the Lock Off 2-Bedroom Villa, the second bedroom is a Deluxe Studio which means it has a separate kitchenette with its own sink, mini refrigerator, and microwave plus its own dedicated entrance separate from the main entrance into the main suite. This feature allows Disney the ability to offer 2-Bedroom Villas when needed but offers the added flexibility of being able to turn it into a 1-Bedroom Villa + a separate Deluxe Studio which can be issued as separate accommodations.

20230930_135514

This room also has its own entrance in and out of the suite.

The theme of The Princess and the Frog is evident here with a firefly lit-bayou mural headboard and carpet that features a colorful lily pad motif.

Bedroom 2

The second bedroom features 2 queen beds, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with a wall safe, spare pillows and blanket. This room has its own kitchenette with sink, mini refrigerator, microwave, toaster and Keurig coffee maker.  You’ll also find additional accoutrement that includes proper dishes, glasses, and eating utensils, can and bottle opener, corkscrew, and ice bucket. The bathroom includes a walk-in shower with bench, a separate toilet room, and hair dryer.

The theme carries through with a rug that features a colorful lily pad motif and the lyric “Blue Skies and Sunshine” heard sung in the film. A relief pattern backsplash behind the television features iconography that evokes the film while artwork over the headboard features Tiana inside of her signature restaurant with her mother. Artwork on the wall features concept art and sketches from the film and beautiful lily pads light up on the mirrors in the bathroom.

Subtle themes for The Princess and the Frog are continue in this space including on a colorful rug that embodies the musical DNA of New Orleans and features the lyric “Dreams Do Come True” heard sung in the film. A lily pad motif that uses vines to evoke the iconic wrought iron work so iconic in New Orleans is also represented in the wallpaper, curtains, and in other details in the room. A layered shadow box style painting of Tiana and her signature restaurant sits over the dining table. Lighted silhouettes of Ray the firefly and Louis the alligator light up the bathroom mirror.

We took advantage of similar amenities in a dedicated 2-Bedroom Villa and made ourselves a pineapple upside down cake, extra walnuts! But if cooking on vacation is not your speed then you can order from the room service menu which includes a *gulp* $75 steak and shrimp dinner.

GUIDE: Palette Pool, Steamboat Willie Splash, and outdoor relaxation areas of The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

$
0
0

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel have finally opened and they welcome a whole new pool area that is unique to the new Discovery Tower but also accessible to all Disneyland Hotel guests. From a swimming pool and spa hot tub to a splash water play area there’s leisurely fun in store for the whole family. Eventually, a new Palm Breeze Bar will be added offering a mix of food and drink options.

The photos and information in this article are from a stay on September 30, 2023.

What Awaits

The new pool area for the Discover Tower of The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel features several distinct features including the Palette Pool inspired by a painter’s palette. The recognizable shape of the pool evokes the artit’s signature tool while a colorful pergola uses sunlight to cast a mixed blend of colors as if a painter has blended together paints and inks. Nearby, the Steamboat Willie Splash play area features Mickey Mouse in his landmark role with gentle fountains and coordinated lights to bring a colorful splash to the monotone cartoon.

Other features include a spa hot tub, seating areas, along with a bunch of loungers, poolside service, and even a nearby grilling area if you’re venturing to cook up your own barbecue. The pool hours are 9am to 9pm.

20231001_145109

Wristbands and Life Vests

The pool areas of the Disneyland Hotel are only for registered guests and a wristband is required to be in the area and to use the facilities. Upon entering the pool area at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, you’ll find a pool host podium where you can secure your pool wristband. Simply show your pool key to snag your band. The wristband color changes every day so you’ll need a new wristband every day of your trip.

This is also where you can pick up a life vest in a few different sizes for adventurous water babies ready to make a splash. Hopefully they don’t get scared by the almost Tim Burton-esque mid-century-style pink planter!

You CAN continue to use the pool after your 11am check-out time. Just make sure to go to the Front Desk before hand to get a specific Pool Key that will continue to work for the day.

Palette Pergola

There are a bunch of seating options all around the pool although the attention-grabbing spots are going to be the ones under the Palette Pool pergola which has colorful translucent panes that cast a colorful blend of colors when the sun shines through them on to the chairs below.

Seating Areas

There are several types of lounging areas around the Palette Pool including traditional lounge chairs, regular sitting/reading chairs, plus conversation areas with couches and dining areas with tables. As with most Disneyland Hotel pool features, there may be a short supply on especially busy days.

Garden Rooms

A very small inventory of “Garden Rooms” are available which are comprised of Deluxe Studio and Duo Studio accommodations that are in this small building that is separate from the main Discovery Tower. These rooms come at a slight premium over regular Deluxe or Duo rooms because they are just steps from the pool. They all feature either a small patio or balcony area.

Steamboat Willie Splash

As the copyright expiration on Steamboat Willie nears closer and closer, it seems Disney is finding more ways to prove that they are still invested in using the likeness of that character. Either way, he serves as the focus for a small water play area that includes gentle waves of water at the bow of the steamboat with a rainbow trail of colorfully-lit fountains leaving a wake at the stern.

Despite various ways to get wet in this area, we were surprised that none of the features here were interactive. Still, the gentle flow of water throughout makes this an ideal splash pad for toddlers and up. The water was also quite warm making it all the more inviting.

Many Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members are used to enjoying stays at the Disney hotels in Orlando and Anaheim but for the newest property, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, there’s an additional Transient Occupancy Tax imposed by the City of Anaheim that gets added to the bill.

According to Disney, this tax must be paid before you check out of the hotel and the amount of tax will vary from year to year, and the tax rate is subject to change. For 2023, the tax rate comes in at $2.78 per point so the taxes range from $27.80 per night for the cheapest accommodations in a duo studio during the slowest period up to $556 per night for the poshest 3-Bedroom Villa during the peak period.

Thankfully, they have compiled a helpful tax chart that lets you know exactly how much you’ll be paying on your upcoming stay to lessen the sticker shock on your folio.

At this time, these Transient Occupancy Tax Charts are specific to The Villas at Disneyland Hotel only and there are currently no Transient Occupancy Taxes charged on stays at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel.

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are the newest lodging destination at the Happiest Place on Earth offering a bunch of accommodation types for all kinds of vacations, the most popular of which is probably the Deluxe Studio which we’re looking at here with a theme of SLEEPING BEAUTY. We had a chance to tour the newest Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property and are happy to invite you along for a look inside.

The photos and information in this article are from a visit on October 21, 2023.

Room Tour

Before we take a closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 306 at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

What’s Included

The Deluxe Studios feature a theme of either Princess and the Frog or, what you’ll see on this page, Sleeping Beauty. The accommodation features a typical style layout with bed and common area plus a kitchenette and bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 4 guests and 1 infant — cribs and high chairs are available upon request.

Bed and Common Area

The Deluxe Studio maximizes an efficient use of layout to pack function into the small space. The room includes a queen bed and a queen-size pull-down bed that retracts into a sofa, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with wall safe, spare pillows and blanket. The split bathroom includes a walk-in shower with bench, a separate toilet room, and, of course, a hair dryer.

The theme of Sleeping Beauty carries through with a rug that features a forest motif and the lyric “Once Upon a Dream” heard sung in the film. A relief pattern backsplash behind the television features iconography that evokes the film while artwork over the headboard features Sleeping Beauty Castle with a striking stripe pattern. Artwork on the wall features concept art and sketches from the film and the silhouettes of the three good fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) light up on the mirrors in the bathroom. The curtain continues the forest theme with leaves and fleur-de-lis icons. A fun detail is bright yellow semi-transparent strip on the window. At night, it takes any light that shines through from outside and turns it into a beautiful rainbow halo.

ROOM TOUR: Inside a wheelchair-accessible 1-Bedroom Villa with The Princess and the Frog theme at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

$

0

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are the newest lodging destination at the Happiest Place on Earth offering a bunch of accommodation types for all kinds of vacations including the 1-Bedroom Villa with preferred view that we’re looking at here which has a theme of THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG.

This particular room is wheelchair accessible offering guests additional amenities to help make their stay more comfortable. If you’re curious about becoming a DVC member or just window shopping a vacation or staycation at the Happiest Place on Earth, we’ve got your full guide to know what this lodging includes!

The photos and information in this article are from a stay on November 4, 2023.

Room Tour

Before we take a closer look at everything included, enjoy this room tour video below taking a closer look at Room 237 at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

What’s Included

The 1-Bedroom Villas feature a theme of either FANTASIA or, what you’ll see on this page, THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. The accommodation features a common area with a full kitchen, dinning area, and bathroom plus a bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This room type may sleep up to 5 guests and 1 infant — cribs and high chairs are available upon request.

20231125_095717Although this was a 1-Bedroom Villa, it’s actually a flexible room that could be combined as part of a 2-Bedroom “lock-off villas.” These types of accommodations are comprised of the 1-Bedroom Villa connected to a Deluxe Studio via a door that’s lockable on both sides. The noticeable difference is that in the dedicated 2-Bedroom Villa, the second bedroom is not a Deluxe Studio so it does not have a separate kitchenette or its own dedicated entrance separate from the main entrance into the main suite. This feature allows Disney the ability to offer 2-Bedroom Villas when needed but offers the added flexibility of being able to turn it into a 1-Bedroom Villa + a separate Deluxe Studio which can be issued as separate accommodations.

20231104_155153

Bedroom

The bedroom features a king bed, a 55″ flat screen-TV, a wardrobe closet with spare pillows and blanket. The bathroom includes soaking tub with hand-cut tile mosaic, roll-in shower with bench, double vanity with dual sinks, a separate toilet room, and, of course, a hair dryer.

Subtle themes for The Princess and the Frog are carried throughout the space including on a colorful rug that embodies the musical DNA of New Orleans and features the lyric “Dreams Do Come True” heard sung in the film.

Full Kitchen

Aside from a full-size French door refrigerator with ice maker, you’ll find a large sink, stove, toaster, and dishwasher. These room types typically have a full oven, as well, however this particular room did not — we are not sure if the accommodations to make the room accessible were the reason.

We took advantage of similar amenities in a 2-Bedroom Villa and made ourselves a pineapple upside down cake, extra walnuts! But if cooking on vacation is not your speed then you can order from the room service menu which includes a *gulp* $75 steak and shrimp dinner.

Accessibility Amenities

While all rooms at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel should be manageable for guests with varying needs, the wheelchair-specific rooms offer a few amenities that will help to make guests in wheelchairs have an even more comfortable stay.

The table and counter tops measure to heights of approximately 32″ with sinks having recesses to allow for an easy roll-up. The primary bathroom features a roll-in shower with handrails and bench and the doorway out onto the balcony is almost completely flat for easy access. Although we did not measure the height of the bed, we did notice that it was significantly lower than in other rooms.

To contrast the changes, you can see what a standard 1-Bedroom Villa with The Princess and the Frog theme looks from our previous visit.

The View

All 1-Bedroom Villas offer a preferred view that includes a view of either the Palette Pool or the Monorail Pool and surrounding areas. The rooms also feature a balcony for a bit of fresh air to take in the sights. You can see the view here is partially obstructed by the roof top just below but otherwise the Monorail Pool is visible just to the left.

20231125_095717As some of the cheapest offerings in the portfolio for this property, the Duo Studios are going to appeal most to the Disneylanding couple without kids who are gonna rope-drop in the morning and close out the night once the gates close. There’s hardly any room to really entertain any guests unless possibly you are in one of the Duo Studios with a balcony. Also, while no one wants to work while on vacation, you’d be hard pressed to be very productive in here as there’s no desk or even a table in this room.

Bed and Common Area

The Duo Studio maximizes an efficient use of layout to pack function into the small space. The room features an accessible-height queen-size bed, a 55″ flat screen-TV, and a closet with an iron, spare pillows, and blanket. The large dresser serves as both storage for the room and also houses a wall safe plus amenities for a quasi-kitchenette. The bathroom includes a roll-in shower and, of course, a hair dryer.

Kitchenette

There is no dedicated kitchenette space in this room type but you will still find a mini refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. The only sink in the room is in the bathroom. You’ll also find additional accoutrement that includes proper dishes, glasses, and eating utensils, can and bottle opener, corkscrew, and ice bucket. Although they are not in the room, you can also request a blender, mop, broom, and dustpan.

If microwaved leftovers are not on your docket, a room service menu is available and includes a variety of options including a *gulp* $75 steak and shrimp dinner.

Accessibility Amenities

While all rooms at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel should be manageable for guests with varying needs, the wheelchair-specific rooms offer a few amenities that will help to make guests in wheelchairs have an even more comfortable stay.

The counter tops measure to heights of approximately 32″ with the sink having a recess to allow for an easy roll-up. The bathroom also features a roll-in shower with handrails and bench plus the doorway out onto the patio is almost completely flat for easy access. Although we did not measure the height of the bed, we did notice that it was significantly lower than in other rooms. The bed is also not a fold out bed as in other Duo Studios meaning it cannot be collapsed into a sofa. There is also significantly more space to the side of the bed to allow clearance for a wheelchair. The curtains also have an easy to grab rod for moving the curtain back and forth.

To contrast the changes, you can see what a standard Duo Studio with The Jungle Book theme looks from our previous visit.

The View

Duo Studios are available in three main types. Preferred View (of either the Palette Pool or the Monorail Pool and surrounding areas); Standard View (gardens, street, or parking areas); and Duo Studio Garden (these are are separate from the main tower and feature easy access to the pool with either a patio or a balcony.) You can see the view here is from the first floor of a Duo Studio Garden with a great view of the Palette Pool and Steamboat Willie play area.

The space in-between the balcony and the pool area seemed a bit odd, we almost would have preferred having a larger patio or added the space to make the actual room larger. Also, from this particular room, you can see in the below photo two green speaker structures which were quite loud. Unfortunately, the windows and balcony door are not soundproofed so when the pool atmosphere music is on during the early morning and into the late evening, you can hear it from the room, even with the door closed.  We are heavy sleepers and were not bothered by it but it’s something to consider if you are a light sleeper. You can take a listen for yourself in this video we shared to social media.

The Electrical Outlets and USBs

We found 4 available wall outlets that were not in use in addition, there was 1 USB ports and 1 Type C ports making for 6 different ways to power up your tech in this Duo Studio. We were surprised that this room seems to have far fewer ways to charge any any other room type. In a standard Duo Studio that was not wheelchair accessible, we had double — at least 12 different power sources. We’re not sure why this particular room was had so few options.

In particular, we surprised to see the kitchenette had a space where an electrical outlet clearly should have been (which in other rooms offers two additional AC outlets plus an additional USB and Type C port) but it instead had a solid plate over it leaving the adjacent Keurig machine with no option to get plugged in. We ended up moving our coffee machine to the bathroom to enjoy our morning cuppa.

Concept art offers quick peek at direction for refreshed Cabins at Fort Wilderness for Disney Vacation Club

In images since scrubbed from their website, Disney recently released new concept artwork and information about the upcoming refresh and reimagining coming to The Cabins at Fort Wilderness. Although it’s unclear why the images are no longer available, it’s easy to speculate that a mixed and tepid response to the redo on social media could possibly be to blame.

The new cabins are part of a collection of improvement projects underway at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground including expanded dining options plus refreshed pool areas and walking trails. From the images, the new direction reveals that the rustic woodsy charm of the original cabins will be replaced with a more contemporary take aimed at meeting the tastes of today’s traveling families.

Disney previously confirmed that the new cabins will take advantage of the resort’s existing footprint but the imagery has a decidedly modern approach for the refresh that disregards or even negates the overall tone of what makes the property so special amongst fans.

Here’s what we know so far about what the new Disney Vacation Club offerings will include.
